We're a philanthropically minded subgroup of the East Bay LGBTQ+ Neighbors (Facebook, Nextdoor), which works to foster intentional queer community in San Francisco's East Bay.
All are welcome to attend Social Giving Circle meetings! Neither donations nor advance notice are required.
If this is your first time attending a meeting, consider emailing Ryan, so that he can keep an eye out for you. Questions, comments or feedback can also be sent to socialgivingcircle@gmail.com.
A giving circle is a form of participatory philanthropy where groups of individuals donate their own money or time to a pooled fund, decide together where to give these away to charity or community projects and, in doing so, seek to increase their awareness of and engagement in the issues covered by the charity or community project. Many circles, in addition to donating their money, also contribute their time and skills to support local causes.
In the United States, giving circles were initially composed of women; they are now more diverse in race, age and gender, although women continue to make up the majority of members.
A number of people in the group will be gone for parts of April and March, and others are busy, so we're going to take a break for a couple of months and will resume in June. Until then, be well! (And check out our past meetings to learn more!)
