At each of our meetings, we encourage members to share about charities in the community. Here you can find brief descriptions for charities that have been mentioned. Members vote on a designated charity for each month, for which we collect donations.
Dorothy Day House Berkeley is a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that for over 30 years has provided meals, shelter, and employment for low-income residents and people who experience homelessness in Berkeley, California.
La Casa de las Madres opened San Francisco's first domestic violence shelter for women and their children. The shelter is now the city's leading voice for abused women, their children and teens - educating, promoting awareness and changing perceptions about domestic violence and its victims.
La Casa provides expert intervention and prevention services to more than 10,000 community members annually, offering emergency residential shelter and community-based services to women, teens and their children while providing advocacy, counseling, family-based services and referrals. All services are free of charge and confidential.

The mission of La Cocina is to cultivate low-income food entrepreneurs as they formalize and grow their businesses.
La Cocina supports businesses by providing an affordable commercial kitchen space, industry-specific technical assistance and access to market opportunities. They focus primarily on providing resources to women from communities of color and immigrant communities.
La Cocina's vision is that entrepreneurs gain financial security by doing what they love to do, creating an innovative, vibrant and inclusive economic landscape.
A local grassroots organization with over 100 dedicated volunteers, Consider The Homeless is a mobile soup kitchen delivering hot homemade soup, bread, and survival supplies to the homeless in downtown Berkeley.
The Pacific Center’s mission is to enhance the mental health and overall well-being of the LGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC communities by providing mental health services, such as culturally responsive therapy, peer to peer support groups, community outreach services, and facilitated workshops.
Expand food assistance services to food-insecure Berkeley residents.

Formerly the AIDS Emergency Fund, the EFA provides financial assistance to low-income San Francisco residents living with HIV/AIDS. The EFA has two programs: Emergency Assistance and Eviction Prevention.
The agency operates within these principal areas: older adult services, parenting and youth services, counseling services, refugee and immigrant services, and volunteer services.

The Oakland LGBTQ Community Center Inc. is committed to supporting and enhancing the well-being of LGBTQ individuals, our families and allies.
Any resident of the San Francisco Bay Area who has been an active participant in the theatre community — regardless of the income derived from that work — in at least two of the past five years and is currently living with a critical illness, condition, or injury is eligible to apply for the program. Applicants can request $250, $500, or $1000.
